Ease of finding new employment

About the Index

The data for this index comes from thousands of exit interviews conducted with departing employees. These people have just been through the process of finding a new job. They are telling us how easy it is. This is a more credible indicator than asking the general population how confident they are in the job market.

In short, the green line shows the percentage of departing employees with strong confidence in the employment market. Specifically, it shows the percentage of interviewees who agreed or strongly agreed with the statement: “It is easy for me to find other employment opportunities”. Each data point on the chart represents the data from that calendar quarter.

Confidence steady

Despite a small dip this quarter, average agreement that it's easy to find a new job, has remained steady for the past three years. It remains only slightly higher than during the worst of the GFC.

Currently most data is collected from employees in Australia with a small number from New Zealand and some Asian locations.

1=strongly disagree            4=slightly agree
2=disagree                             5=agree
3=slightly disagree              6=strongly agree

The blue line indicates the average ease of finding a new job using the scale below.
